What is a Podcast?

A podcast is a media file (audio or video) that is made available ("syndicated") over the internet using software allowing the user to “subscribe” to the file. Audio podcasts are similar to radio shows, often with a host and guests, however unlike radio a podcast can be listened to at a time of the user’s choosing.

After subscribing to a podcast any new episodes are automatically downloaded to the user’s computer. The file can then be listened to anytime, either on the computer or on any portable MP3 (digital music) player, such as an iPod.
